Bots: how circles work

Every circle runs on a Mixin bot. Everything you do with a circle — reading posts, chatting, joining as a member — happens in that bot’s conversation.

  • Tap the bot’s avatar to open its profile page: that’s where you browse posts, replays, and announcements, and where you start a chat or join the circle.
  • In the conversation, the bot delivers posts to you and handles your commands (for example, send /help to see the help).
  • The bot’s name and avatar are the circle’s name and avatar, chosen by the circle owner.

Joining the bot is not the same as becoming a member

Opening the chat only gets you through the door. In a free circle, you can tap the Join — it’s free button and become a member right away; in a paid circle, you need to buy a membership to see locked content. And even if you never join, you can still browse the public content.

Circles travel through invite links — someone shares a link in a group chat or with a friend, and tapping it opens the bot’s profile page.
