Customize Story Hub

Story Hub is one of the two layouts with a customize sheet. Open Console → Settings → Appearance, click “Customize” on the Story Hub layout card, and the sheet has two tabs: “Layout” holds every appearance option, and “Home entries” manages the member home’s quick cards (see below). Only the owner and admins may change them.

Navigation labels

The four labels drive the bottom tab bar and each page title. Empty fields fall back to defaults.

Vocabulary

One rename — every piece of member copy that says “source” or “story” follows.

Home copy

The hero area of the member home. The real sheet uploads a banner image here (wide, ~3:1, ≤5 MB).

Home title empty — members see the circle name “Daily Notes”

Subtitle empty — the line is not rendered.

The console on the left simulates the sheet; the phone on the right follows every rule live:

  • The navigation labels drive the tab bar and each page’s title; when the Sources/Stories labels are empty, their defaults follow the vocabulary nouns.
  • A vocabulary rename flows into every piece of member copy that mentions sources or stories — intros, follow counts, home entries.
  • An empty home title falls back to the circle name; an empty subtitle line is not rendered at all.
  • The banner renders as a full-bleed background with a dark gradient so the text stays readable.
  1. Rename the “Sources tab” to “Radios”, then clear it — once empty it follows the “Source name” default.
  2. Change “Source name” to “Wire”: the tab bar, the sources intro, and the home entry tile all follow.
  3. Leave the home title empty (it starts that way): the nameplate falls back to the circle name “Daily Notes”.
  4. Tick the sample banner: the hero becomes a full-bleed banner with a dark gradient.
  5. Switch to the “Home entries” tab and untick “💼 Membership”: the card leaves the home directory; tick it again to restore — a disabled entry stays in the management list.
Field Default Limit Where it shows
Home tab Home 40 chars 1st tab; home page title
Sources tab Sources 40 chars 2nd tab; sources page title
Stories tab Stories 40 chars 3rd tab; stories page title
Mine tab Mine 40 chars 4th tab; profile page title
Field Default Limit Notes
Source name Source 40 chars Replaces “source” across member copy
Source plural Sources 40 chars Hidden for zh circles; auto-follows the singular
Story name Story 40 chars Replaces “story” across member copy
Story plural Stories 40 chars Hidden for zh circles; auto-follows the singular

The vocabulary seeps into member copy — intros, follow buttons, empty states. Renaming changes no data: existing sources and follows are untouched; only the wording changes.

Field Default Limit Where it shows
Home title none 120 chars The big nameplate; empty falls back to the circle name
Home subtitle none 120 chars Line under the title; empty is not rendered
Home banner none JPEG / PNG / WebP / GIF, ≤5 MB, wide ~3:1 Full-bleed hero background; a “remove current banner” checkbox appears after saving
Sources directory intro none 2000 chars Saved in the sheet; not yet shown on the member site in the current version

The sheet’s Home entries tab manages the quick cards on the member home: each has a title (≤80 chars), an optional description (≤500), an icon, and an order — tap one and it lands on a circle page or an external site. The list, new-entry button, editing, and deletion all happen inside the sheet, mirroring the showcase pages / cards tabs.

  • Jump targets cover circle content (articles, collections, the sources directory, one source, the guide), member self-service (orders, membership, questions, red packets…), and bots / links — a dozen-plus kinds; the full catalog is on Home entries.
  • Folders live at the top level only and group related entries. The typical Story Hub pattern: tuck the guide, a learning-path collection, and one curated source into a “Start here” folder, with a “Membership” entry beside it — the newcomer path and the conversion path sit right on the home page.
  • An unfilled jump target, Q&A / red packets being off, and a few other conditions hide an entry from members; the management list flags each reason inline (full rules on Home entries).

The starter pack (up to three featured source cards sent to new members on join) is not in the sheet — it’s configured in the Content toolkit.

  • Source category ordering and source tab groups (up to 4 groups, labels ≤20 chars) live on the Story feeds & sources page.

Does switching layouts lose these settings?

Section titled “Does switching layouts lose these settings?”

No. Customization is stored in the circle’s layout settings, independent of the active layout: switch to Trading Hub and back, and the labels, vocabulary, and banner are exactly as you left them.
